Crabtree retains one of the few remaining old Clare Valley Muscat stores with over fifty barrels dating back some 26 years. The Muscat has a huge following and customers often refer to themselves as members of the “Magic Mystery Muscat Club”. The Crabtree golden liquor is a must try on your next trip to the Clare Valley.In addition, just when it seems most wineries have stopped making traditional Vintage Fortified wines the Crabtree Crew have revisited this long living style of fortified. The power house 2008 Vintage Fortified Shiraz will be available in 2011 in a traditional 750ml bottle – all the better for very, very long cellaring.
The Crabtree Grand Muscat is blended from our stock of aged barrels dating back over 30 years. The current release has ingredients from 17 different vintages. The wine is sourced from the 150 year old vines of Noel and Heather Smith, and the 30 year old vines on the winery estate.
The current minimum average age is 15 years, qualifying the wine as a “Grand Muscat”.
The wine is golden, perfumed with dried fruits and raisins. It’s moderately viscous which only comes from age. The palate is rich and sweet tasting of figs, citrus and dried fruits.
The finish is firm, with great length, and a nice balancing touch of acidity.
A wonderful finish to any dinner party served with coffee and dark chocolates.
The wine will keep sound for many years unopened but will not improve with age. The maturation occurs in the barrel only. The wine will keep well after opening for several months.
