This wine was made from handpicked fruit from the Crabtree Estate’s Hilltop block situated on the rocky sandstone ridge above the homestead. These low cropping, dry grown vines are 50 years old and are still carefully handpruned to rod and spur.
The wine was open fermented in 2 tonne vats, gently hand plunged and basket pressed. It was then aged in one and two year old French and American oak barriques and hogsheads for 18 months. The 2009 Crabtree Hilltop Shiraz has deep purple and crimson hues. The wine shows ripe sweet berry fruit with underlying herbal tones, supported by a soft juicy palate with black cherries and rose petal florals.Soft and succulent with a hint of vanilla. While accessible as a young wine in the first year of release, this finely balanced Shiraz will develop gracefully for 6 – 8 years. Decant before serving.
